Upward Momentum Initiative Announces Its First Investments
Foundation: Gates Foundation, Missouri Foundation for Health
In Missouri, a child born today has a 50% chance of making more money than his or her parents by the time he or she turns 18, the St.
Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
That's why three major philanthropists in the state are putting $30 million toward fighting generational poverty.
The Upward Momentum initiative, a joint effort by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the John F.
McDonnell Foundation, and the Missouri Foundation for Health, aims to increase economic mobility for all people "through ensuring access to economic success, self-determination, and belonging regardless of race, gender, geography, or background," the Post-Dispatch reports.
The money will be invested in community-led organizations across the state.
